Can someone explain why I would want to build a rear horn loaded enclosure verses a tuned reflex port? Why not horn load both the front and back of the speaker with mirror horns? I've made a sketch. Just need to build a big wood steamer and make some curved plywood. :)

Horn loading the back increases efficiency. Problem is as I have already stated severe phase issues.

You simply misstated the problem is why you got wrong info. In your case two large mouths became one huge one. The effect is drastically increased by proximity just as I said.:D

Sum of two waves slightly out of phase
Essentially with out of phase issues some frequencies will add, others will cancel. The result is exaggerated peaks and dips. This is why the enclosure can not exhibit smooth response over a wide band.

I'm gonna work on a drawing of an infinite baffle design, I'll post it up when I get it done, what I really want to do is get rid of the boxy sound that seems to be so common in enclosures.And have a nice clear open sound...only with thundering bass. :/

I beleive the only real way to do that is with an infinite baffle....... driver mounted in wall/ceiling/floor/etc.

I hope no other threads/posts got messed up or deleted when the forum changed--I really consider the info/history here to be invaluable and some of it is irreplaceable. Anyone else notice any discrepancies/deletions?

I've noticed a few that seemed to get chopped up. I think it was the prior change in the forum, not the most recent one. If you notice none of the codes work either.
